Will a DP34 switch power the 1000.2, or is a DPP44 switch needed? BTW, also, will a DP301 receiver power a DPP44 switch, or will the "Power Inserter" be necessary?

It is always recommended that you power the DP44 switch with the power inserter, no Dish receiver is designed to constantly provide sufficient power to power the DP44 - you are asking for a reciever failure.

The switch does not power the lnb's, the receiver does, except in the case of the DP44 where the greater poweer needed should be provided by the power inserter. The switch merely passes the voltage on to the lnb's.

I also believe that the D1000.2 has an internal switch built-in making the addition of a DP34 not necessary unless you need signal to 4 tuners.

Thanks, Jim. So the additional power provided with the power inserter is needed to power the DPP44, not the 1000.2 lnb's? So, if connection to the 1000.2 w/o the DPP44, no power inserter should be necessary?

Correct, a 1000.2 LNBF can be powered by a single receiver. It will support up to three receivers directly. If you have more than 3 receivers then you will need to add a DPP44 switch (and corresponding power inserter).
