17 & 22 are now reading 0. Did they shut them down now.

I believe this was the plan - to free up those TP's as D10 spares by moving that programming to D11 which has been done.
we did see them move channels off 17 & 22 last week ...

Yes, I was just saying that they have turned them off.
D10 will now be able to supply many more HD LIL markets.:)

This was part of the planed expansion of the local markets Augusta, GA.; Chattanooga, Tenn.; Lincoln-Hastings, Neb.; Rochester, N.Y are about to get served.:)

When they turn off a CONUS transponder, does that give them more spotbeam space for locals? How many spot beams can be used within a CONUS transponder assuming they convert one for that?
I believe 17 and 22 were actually spot beams, made to have a spot beam of CONUS (IE, wannabe national TP) unil D11 was up when it would then be used as a spot beam in traditional terms.

Seemed like they took spare national transponders and used the frequencies from tp 17 & 22 which were originally planned for spotbeams. Now they'll free them up for spotbeams as the channels were moved to D11.

That's not something they can do with D10/D11. You need something like a phased array antenna like the Spaceways have to be able to "adjust" the size from a DMA sized spot to a CONUS sized "spot". 17 and 22 might be transponder frequencies that were originally allocated to spots, then used on spare CONUS transmitters. But they couldn't have been spot beam transmitters that were made CONUS.

OK, so my science was wrong, but overall gist that those two TPs will now be spotbeams for HD LIL is correct?

Yep.
