10B mine sticks on startup

Mine sticks on the startup 1 of 2 screen.....

I have never had a network cable plugged in so this is not my problem.

This started after I powered the unit down and waited 5 minutes before plugging it back in.

Any ideas Earl?

By the way, never had a ethernet cable plugged in. This only happened after a 5 minute powerdown and restart attempt. I restarted for another issue (unwatchables)

I did a 10 minute power down and still no luck.

Sticks on that same screen.
Hmmm.....

Not sure what to tell you, other then pull the plug again.

Do you have any b-band converters hooked up?

Yes, Should I remove them?

I would... for now.
I am on the phone waiting now for tech support.

I have tried everything. Nothing works.

Do you think a full format will do it?

I have tried using the record and down button but no record light ever comes on.

What is the exact proceedure for doing a full format?

When restarting... Hold down-arrow and record at the same time, till the system reboots again.

One last thing to try... are you connected via HDMI?
Try via s-video

Normally "just before" the screen you are on, you get a flicker... and that is when it tries to negotiate with the TV.

Possible try the entire boot cycle with the TV OFF (takes about 10 minutes from start to finish
I am doing this on Svideo with the hdmi unplugged.
The tech support person is trying but I get the impression that she has no idea what is going on here.
You might also try swapping the satellite inputs.
And also re-forcing a software download.

Good luck,
Tom
Mine is doing the SAME!!!

Have tried all your suggestions too
1) Boot with no TV connected
2) Swap of Satelite inputs
3) Reload of software
4)Bypass of the B-bands

NO LUCK....

What is going on here...
Due to the fact that this happened after I did a 5-10 minute cool down, this could be a major problem because most people may not have done that yet.

I was on the phone for over 2 hours last night with tech support and customer retention. Tech support had no idea how to fix it but we went through all the proceedures they have for troubleshooting.

One person told me that the unit was overheated because I put it in standby mode. She said never do that, I asked her why it had a power button if you were not suppose to do that and she said to please hold. Mine goes to standby when I push the power off button on the remote for the TV so she had no answer for that.

Finally customer retention decided to send a tech out today with a new reciever.

I have my doubts that he will show with a HR20 on such a short notice but I will wait and see.

Bottom line is that this thing died for no apparent reason and it seems others are starting to see the same problem. I think D* needs to do some sort of failure analysis on my box to see what happened.

You might try downloading the code again ! Maybe there was an error when the code was burned. Also reset and power cycle sometimes act a little different.

I did this -- no change. The CSR I spoke with was very nice and said they would ship a new one out today. We will see..

My guess is that there are some latent defects in some units that have gone unnoticed until the hardware was enabled (Ethernet and OTA are examples)

I forced new downloads, unplugged, RBR, uplugged for some time, short time, removed BBC's, switched sat inputs, removed access card and tried to power up, unplugged HDMI, used component, Svideo, Composite to the Tv, stood on my head and did chants to the satellite gods, etc.

Nothing works.....
I definitely am seeing the same issues. Sometimes I get to the Welcome screen "Almost There ... a few more seconds". I am not sure what a "few" means, but after 5 minutes, it is time for the RBR. Sometimes it gets past the Welcome to the Search 1 of 2 screen and sometimes not. Then, it gets to the 1 of 2 screen and sits there. Sometimes it goes all the way through and all seems well, but the trick play options are not working.

I think that I may call up and ask for a new box and see what that may do.

Tis the Season to be Jolly!!!
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

What a nightmare...but I finally figured out how to resolve....Wednesday morning 12/20 around 4am all 3 of my HR20s apparently rec'd the new software update...didn't know this at the time b/c upon waking and attempting to access one of the boxes, it appeared to be BRICKED!!! No lights, nothing...you could hear the hard drive, and actually see the network lights working, but no images on the tv screen and no lights on the box....unplugged power, clicked on reset, nothing...

Called Support and they knew nothing of the new firmware, they were just going to send me out a replacement box...>>>BOX #1

Wife woke up at 8am, and she tried BOX #2 and BOX #3, same result...I called DTV and instead of sending out replacement boxes, they were sending out a technician (for what I have no idea)...He shows up (roughly 70+ yrs of age), knew absolutely nothing...did everything I had already done...he even swapped out the multiplexer...why? No clue...still nothing, he finished by saying that I needed to contact DTV and have the boxes replaced...so I did that in the evening...so now I have 3 replacement boxes on the way...

For ****s and giggles, I decided to unplug each network cable from the back of each box and click on reset...GUESS WHAT?? It friggin' worked...the software update finished its install, and the systems ALL came back to life!!! I plugged the network cables back into the boxes and there have been no issues...

Now I am just waiting to see how I can get my boxes to see my NAS so that I can stream music, movies, and photos!!!

Have CAT6 running throughout the house connected to gigabit switches...

Thank G-D for this forum as it is the MOST HELPFUL PLACE ON EARTH!!!

Good Luck everyone..

I'm glad you found the solution to your problem. I listed this in the Troubleshooting Guide yesterday. I hope it helps others before they get as frustrated as you did.
