I used to laugh when others posted that their significant other was complaining about the dvr... until 10b. I'm getting frequent black screens now and having to reset the unit. My girlfriend is flabbergasted that shows aren't being recorded.
I'm a network geek for my job and I must admit that it might not be the new SW, it's always possible the hardware has started to go south, but I'm blaming the software. It's usually a safe bet with this king of problem.
One more crash and I call directv again and complain. I expect this to hapen within 48 hours, as things have been going. No way it will be a week. :-(.
I think I'll insist on a visit by an expert tech and have them reallign the dish. My signal strength could be better. I know it's not the problem, but since they cannot do anything but wait for the next softare release, I might as well get somthing useful from them. Working up on my roof seems like a good penance. A dish reallignment for every crash, that would show me they cared!

Having it carefully aligned once is a good idea while you're waiting for the next software update. I'm with you....it's most likely a software issue.
