Ok, here's the situation. I'm moving back in with my family. I got the Dish DHP back in Feb. I don't want to cancel and be charged the fee (plus I like the 501 too much to give up). My family just got the Dish DHP a couple months ago. They have 4 receivers on their account (all 301's). I have a 501 and 301. I'm trying to decide what to do. I thought about mounting my dish at my uncle's and letting him use it with the 301. I'd connect my 501 to my family's dish. The other option is mounting my dish next to my family's and keep my receivers connected to it. So I'm asking for recommendations on what to do. Also, how do the receivers actually work? If I hook my receiver with my card up to my family's dish will I still receive the programming from my dish or would I get their programming? I figure at the very least I'm going to have to give dish a different address for my account since my family already has an account at that address, or won't that matter? Thanx for your help.

The dish is nothing more then a glorified TV antenna. The programming info is in the smart card in the reciever. Your recievers will get the programming you subscribed to and your parents will get what they subscribed to. As for putting the dish at your uncles, it is sort of dishonest, but it will work. Then again since both bills are going to be paid in full every month then It doesn't matter I guess.

If your parents have (4) receivers it is very doughfull they have any unused sattelite feeds. They probabley have a quad LNBF or an SW64 switch completely used up. This leaves no where for you to connect your 501. Maybe you should go live with your uncle he's probably more fun than your parents.

That's what I thought about the dish just being like an antenna and the smart card controlling the programming. I was also thinking about the 4 receiver thing. I dunno about my uncle being more fun. My sister and brother-in-law can be fun. Besides, my family has the puppy which is more fun than anyone :)

Unless you want to buy & install another switch ($119-149) + connections, etc. putting up your own dish is the only option.
