I've searched a million posts & haven't found the procedure to use the HR34 remote with 2 HR20 receivers on IR. Is it workable or is RF on the 2nd unit the better solution? It's bye-bye Tivo either way.

I believe you can do this in your remote setup. Go menu>help and settings>setup>remote, then review the options for "receiver mode". I think that's where you can use the "av1" or "av2" switches to control a 2nd receiver.

Programming Remote to Control Two HR20s Tip/Trick

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

PROBLEM: You have more than one HR20 unit.....or H20 and HR20. They are located in a electronics rack or close to each other. Since these units have one documented IR code set (00001) when trying to control one the other reacts too.

SOLUTION:

First HR20:
1) Turn both units OFF....use power button on front panel of units.
2) Hide the H20's (or 2nd HR20) IR window (tape, book, whatever)
3) Power ON this First HR20.....use power button on this HR20's front panel not the remote !
4) Put the RC24 remote slider bar on DirecTV logo position.
5) Using the MENU, Arrows, SELECT/ENTER keys on this HR20's front panel go to Menu> Settings> Setup> Remote> IR/RF. Select IR if not already and proceed with the on-screen instructions to hold down [MUTE]+[SELECT], then 961, then [PgDn] button on remote.....Exit/Done. This will set First HR20 Receiver to IR.
6) Go ahead on the remote and hold down [MUTE]+[SELECT] again, after two blinks then type 00001. This puts 00001 as the code set for this remote for the DirecTV logo slider position.
7) Power OFF this First HR20 Unit.
8) Now Hide this First HR20's IR window (tape, book, whatever)

Next H20 (or 2nd HR20):
1) Now un-Hide this H20's (or 2nd HR20) IR window that was previously hidden.
2) Power ON this H20 (or 2nd HR20).....use power button on the front panel not the remote !
3) Using the MENU, Arrows, SELECT/ENTER keys on this H20's (or 2nd HR20) front panel go to Menu> Settings> Setup> Remote> IR/RF. Select IR if not already and proceed with the on-screen instructions to hold down [MUTE]+[SELECT], then 961, then [PgDn] button on remote.....Exit/Done. This will set this H20's (or 2nd HR20) Receiver to IR.
4) Now again using the MENU, Arrows, SELECT/ENTER keys on this H20's (or 2nd HR20) front panel go to Menu> Settings> Setup> Remote> Receiver Mode. You will see either DIRECTV or AV1/AV2, click on whichever to reveal both at the same time. Select AV1/AV2. Select [DONE] on the screen. This has now set this H20's (or 2nd HR20) Receiver to understand the code sets from AV1/AV2 slider position.
5) Now, go ahead on remote and move the slider from the DirectTV logo position to AV1 position. Next, hold down [MUTE]+[SELECT], after two blinks then type 00002. This puts 00002 as the code set for this remote for the AV1 slider position.

Done ! Now when the RC24 remote slider is on DirecTV logo is controls HR20, when on AV1 it controls H20 (or 2nd HR20). If you have more than one remote you wish to program like this you just need to repeat the hold down [MUTE]+[SELECT] steps only with the corresponding slider position and code set.

I am presently using a Harmony 880 remote, is there a simple way to set it up to control two HR 20's along the lines of this setup. I just had my HR10-250 take a dive and Direct TV replaced it with the HR 20. So it's good bye to having the best of both worlds hooked up to our HD Sony.

I have gone through the Remote setup on the RC34 several times to no avail. It even freezes up. Is there a difference with the 34 from the 24? Tech support said there is only one code for the 34. Would it work to switch one to RF so only one is getting the commands? Newbie here.

Thanks,

Iaen

I combined Earl's way and thekochs' way into one in the Tips & Trick link below.

It also shows to cotrol one HR20 from two remotes, etc.

It appears the remote accepts the 00002 code. At least it gets no response from slider on D* nor does it respond to AV1. I follow the screen prompts exactly. Has anyone actually done this with the RC34 or is it only successful with RC24?

Thanks, Iaen
