20 days from commitment end what can I do?

My commitment is up on Oct 6th and I am considering leaving to go to another provider. Is there anything I can do prior to that to "get out" early?

Pay the ETF.
Why are you considering leaving?

Your bill is paid in advance, so you have already paid through your commitment. Just call and ask for a return kit for each DirecTv box you have, and use the next 20 days to test drive whatever service you plan to get. Then call and cancel DirecTv prior to your next billing deduction or due date.

Sound advice, but I'd wait until I decided to cancel before requesting the return kit. In my case I didn't even have to ask -- DirecTV said they'd be sending a return box, big enough for two DVR's.
And depending on the new provider, you may want to suspend service instead of outright canceling, in case the grass isn't greener.
Your commitment is up in 20 days, and you want to cancel early? What's the rush? Why not just wait 3 weeks and then cancel after you are out of the commitment?

And here folks we have a troll. Joined in 2008 with only one post and doesn't reply to any posts since but just sits back to see the pot explode that he has stirred. I say to him, if he is really leaving, "Good Riddance". Think about this, if he is really leaving why was it necessary for him to come on DBS to announce it? I am getting very tired of these kinds of posts. I come here to gain technical knowledge, not for drama. Directv, DBS, and myself don't need people like you. I have been with Directv for over 10 years and I am thrilled with my service and new HR34. I carry the Premiere programing package and add to it a few extras. My monthly bill is extremely reasonable compared to what cable in my area would cost me. Directv is always willing to help me find ways to cut my bill too. I just called this past Saturday and asked if they had any new promotions that would help me and the CSR said one moment please while I check. Then came back and said yes we indeed do and offered to cut my bill for the next 12 months. So as nicely as I can say it, "Put up or shut up". Give us the details of your problem, let us see if we can help you, or hit the road and don't let the door hit you in the behind on the way out.

The OP is certainly suspect.
