Well, I don't know about you guys but once again I've been disappointed by Directv over hype projections from there public relations department. 25 new markets with Local HD channels is starting to look like another cluster of lies.
DIRECTV will offer local HD broadcast networks in 67 markets, representing approximately 74 percent of U.S. TV households, by year end when it rolls out 25 more local HD markets in the fourth quarter.
Since the announcement in October a grand total of 4 local HD markets have been added and the projection of 25 markets by the end of year has been reduce to 12, accordinging to lastest press release produced by Directv
With the addition of these four markets, DIRECTV now offers local HD broadcast channels in 49 cities, representing more than 65 percent of U.S. TV households. DIRECTV plans to launch an additional eight HD local markets throughout the remainder of the year.
I would be surprised if they were right about the eight additional markets by the end of the year and what's up with the percentages they can't even get those right! Well I guess I won't be watching any of the Big Bowl games in HD this year. I can't wait to FOIS is available in the Norfolk area. I guarantee that will be my last day as a DTV customer, I look forward to it!!

Pay $300 for a HD box that is considered leased.
Force to use DVR boxes that is slower and featureless compared to it's TIVO counterpart.
Lied too on a constant basis, not very good!!

You obviously do not deal with any kind of business decisions do you? I am saying that because if you did, then you know that things that you have "planned" can change at any time. They have to go through negotiations with every company that owns a station in those areas to try and get it in HD....and as far as the price of the HD-DVR, at least it's not 1,000.00 anymore like it was when I got mine...If you are so unhappy with D*, then why use their products??

All I have say to that is you must have some vested interest in the company, if you believe that load! Why market or release a press annoucement with specific cities if they have not already either been in final negotiations with or have already comfirm a deal. The only reasonable conclusion I come up with is that they intended to decieve us to boost sales in those markets, take that to your business class and if it's OK for you to pay $300 for something that doesn't belong to you and atop of that pay an additional monthly activation fee, when your neighbor next door pays $9.95 a month in rental fees and the same activation fee for his box that gives him access to pretty much the same useless amount of HD channels that DTV offers (I believe DTV offers two more HD channels than my local cable provider). Just in case you can't figure it out that's 2 1/2 years of use and I can swap out the box for free if the equipment becomes out dated, if directv equipment becomes out dated guess what you're coughing up another $300 to update, I rather have the payment plan method! Hasn't anybody told you before leasing is poor man way of pretenting to be something he's not, smart! Leasing is bad idea when buying a car and it's an even worse idea when your getting it from your satellite provider. But I'm Happy if your Happy with it!!

PS: the cable provider doesn't charge me a $10.95 fee for the HD service.

I agree Tyrate, it was a pretty BS move on their part to make that announcement if they weren't even going to come close to deliver. It's one thing if they say that, roll out to 15, maybe 20 markets..missing the mark by a few or even several.

It's just bad business to make an announcement like that and not only fail to deliver, but not even come close to your target.

In the end, I could care less because 0x108 has given me OTA locals now...but still, the principal is there.

D* needs to get its act together. :nono:

Wow! Is your nickname Tyrate or Tirade? It seems odd that you'd still be a D* customer if you're that unhappy with them. If you feel you've been lied to and the pricing is a rip off, you should explore other options you can get right now. Or are you just seeing which of us will rise to the bait.... in which case, I guess it worked.

I really hate to sound bitter, but I am, it's not like I haven't given them a chance I've been with DTV for seven years, I've drop well over $1000 in DTV equipment. I purchase 2 DVR boxes + 2 two HD boxes + a few standard boxes for the kids. I would leave it but when you have a wife in background ready to say I told you so, she been trying to telling me for years that DTV is big waste of money. Just as a another example; When I used my protection plan for my HD box they replace it with it's cheaply made refurbish HD DTV box, not my Samsung box that I invested $600 into when I first purchase it! Like I said when FOIS comes in I'm a goner.

Sucks, doesn't it, but you agreed to it with your eyes open, didn't you? In business class they will probably cover automobile leasing and something called "Capital Cost Reduction," which is a one time up front payment that generally costs a lot more than $300, and then you get to lease the car for a monthly payment. :eek2: It's the same as!
