I'm going to throw a 2900 receiver into service that has been sitting in the closet for a year.

What is the current software version for the 2900? Does the current software support the mapping of the local channels? I know my 501 and 4900 do, but I haven't heard of anything on the 2900's being updated.

Will it handle my Quad LNB just fine without a software upgrade? Or might it have difficulty?

Thanks.

He might mean a 3900. That can handle themapping. The 2700/2800/3700 cannot at this time.

Ahh,, It must be a 2800. Svideo output, no digitial output. Non-Open TV compatible.

Any ideas what the current software release is? That way I'll know if I get it or not.

Also, I forgot about OpenTV, so maybe they'll never be able to map the channels if they can't support OpenTV?

Thanks.

By the way say hello to Jenny for me.

For software info go to

http://www.dishnetwork.com/content/support/technical/software_versions/index.asp

There is also a link on the main DBSTALK page.

As for your other question that is a loaded one. Back in January Charlie mentioned in a chat that "your receivers" will be updated for this mapping. He did not qualify it in any manner. Subsequent to that time the Open TV receivers have been upgraded in this way. As far as I know there was no announcement on other receivers.

In the case of the DP both MS and DISH have talked about how it is harder because of the joint responsibility. I do not think other "legacy" receivers have ever been addressed.

Because of the Open TV upgrade many have assumed that the upgrading will stop there. maybe they are right. Maybe they are wrong.

It is a good idea to search old threads on items like this. you can earn a lot and sometimes folks won't repost the old info.

Ta Daa!

Either I've been sleeping or just recently my 2800 received a software update. My local channels are now mapped down to their single digit numbers. I only noticed because I wanted 107 and my remote lost line of site after the 1.

I knew I could avoid remembering those 4 digit numbers.

Didn't Dish say about a year ago that they were going to "re-program" the code to gain some extra memory in some/all of the receivers?
I believe they have already sent down new code to gain some extra memory. They changed how the EPG is compressed so that it takes less time for it to pull down from the satellite and so that it exists in the receivers memory in a compressed state, uncompressing on the fly.

I thought this was sent down a few months ago.
