After 3 tech visits from our idiots here at Mastec, I've decided the best solution to our wire run problems would be to install a second AT9 on the other side of the house.

I don't need a second D* account, do I? The Hr20 connecting to it is already accounted for & active. I'm just curious, are there any account related issues to look out for?

No, the receiver has no idea what dish it is connected to.

Nope, you could have 5 receivers connected to 5 dishes, all that D* cares about is the registered card.

So if you only have one card they charge for one etc.

I did exactly that, though only one of my dishes is an AT9. I've got an HR10 and an HR20 in the living room, and an HR10 and SD TiVo in a couple of back bedrooms -- it was a lot simplier and cleaner just to plop down another dish in back, rather than running a ton of wires all the way from the front of the house. Plus, I like the redunancy -- the two systems are totally separate.
