Here are three possible ideas to improve the HR series of DVRs.

#1- adding a VOD logo next to the channel logo. So I know which channels are available on demand and quicker access to them without having to scroll through the 1000's.

Example of VOD Logo's.

#2- using the resolution lights on the DVR to see the resolution from across the room. 1 light for 480, 2 lights for 720 and 4 lights for 1080.

Example of 720

Example of 1080i

Example of 1080P

#3- Recording conflict, maybe adding the option to record on another DVR within the house without having to leave the room.

Example of Alternate DVR.

Im just throwing these ideas out there to see what people think.

No real interest in the first 2 but I think we are all in for the third one.

I like your third one a lot!!! I have wished for just such a feature several times in the last week during Stanley Cup playoffs.

First one, no guarantee what you want is their in providers VOD selections. No easy way to jump there.

Second one, too many lights. I wish there was a light off menu select so only a faint power button would be there. Like the H25 power light.

The third one was hinted as maybe coming in the future in the chat room 2 weeks ago.
The feature to have DVR's choose other DVR's for recording, even without conflicts as the cause has been requested for years. Maybe this is the year?

I like all the ideas. There might be even better ways of integrating VOD with ordinary channels -- that is, I don't think it's enough to just mark the channels that have a related VOD channel. There should also be an easy way of getting to the VOD channel.

For #2, from across the room it's hardly possible to tell the current resolution just from the slight horizontal displacement of a blue light, and lighting up several lights would fix that. The charm of this idea is that it should be very easy to implement.

I like all the ideas too, except I think putting the VOD tag on the channel in the guide might lead to confusion with regular viewers thinking that's a VOD channel, not the regular linear one. But yeah, having some sort of tag or flag would be nice to identify which ones have VOD content.

I do like the idea of having the resolution lights be progressive. I don't think it will fly though as you can find that info in the info banner and the cost benefit probably won't pencil out.

As far as #3... yeah, that would be great!

Speak for yourself. These three, all three, would be at the very bottom of my very long list.

  1. If you list VOD on the regular channels some people will get confused and think that the regular channels are the VOD channels.
  2. Too many lights. Plus you can already look and see which format you're on by the position of the light.
  3. I like the 3rd idea, but it probably won't happen now that they have the HR34 out with 5 tuners.

How about another twist on #3 (call it #4)... automatically look to see if any of the 3 programs are being replayed and then offer to move one of them.
If it's playing later there's no reason to move it. Just move it down your priority list and the later showing gets recorded.

Not true if the conflict is cause by watching live TV. Regardless of where on the list it is, the whole list is prioritized higher than live TV.

It's completely true. If it's being replayed it can be recorded later no matter the reason for the conflict.
