3 wired HR20 DVR, video from PC question

Everyone/anyone...

Last week I revieved 2 brand new HR21s to replace my old TIVO DVRS from DirecTV. I spend the better part of day (during the Hurricane FAY) wiring the attic for CAT6 and getting them plugged into my gigabit switch in my house.

I then got WMP11 up and running on one of my workstations and I was very pleased when all 3 DVRs started working and I could get files off my PC.

The problem is that for video MPEG, there does not appear to be a way to fast forward or rewind.

I tried TVersity and it seems that it has the same issue.

I searched the forums and saw that TVersity CANNOT rewind or fast forward, but is it the same for WPM?

After sweating for 6 hours and wiring everything, I am a little disapointed that I cannot FF or rewind.

Also I found out (after telling my wife) that MRV is not available yet... if at all.

I know that wired HR2x units can VOD from Directv and I can see that watching pictures of the kids is great.

Am I missing something?

Thanks in advance,

Paul

MRV is not available yet. Currently there is the Directv2PC program that is a Closed Beta that allows people to view recorded shows from the HD-DVRs on their PC, this is supposedly one of the foundation steps towards MRV so hopefully not too far off in the future we should have MRV coming.

As far as the FF or Rewind, I will let someone else answer as I do not use MediaShare for video all that often.
Not sure what you are trying to FF/Rew. If it is normal recorded programs on the HR21s, you most certainly can (should be able to) do both.

There is a single 90 minute buffer. For live programming, as soon as you have anything in the buffer you can back up. Once you are behind real time, you can also FF. If you change channels, the buffer is cleared and you start fresh on the new channel, so you have to wait long enough to buffer something.

Recorded shows can be FF and rewound.

On the remote, you want to use the << and >> buttons (either side of the big black play button) for Rew and FF. Each press takes you to a faster speed, up to 4x which jumps through the program pretty fast.

If that is not what you are referring to, let us know more specifically what the issue is, I'm sure someone can help.

Welcome to the forums, and to the HR2x series product.

For Media Share, FF and RW apparently only work when using Viiv. Hopefully as development continues it will be available with other media servers.

Is there a way to build a Viiv PC at home using VMWARE or Windows Virtual Server?

Or is it worth getting Vivv PC?

Or is it really the OS, Windows XP Media Center Edition (MCE) 2005 that makes the difference?

Thanks
