Low VHF signals require a much larger antenna than what UHF needs. Hight VHF is closer to the lower UHF frequencies, sometimes you get lucky using a UHF for the hi banders, but low band is totally out of the question.

Are you sure that low band VHF is staying on VHF after the Feb '09 analog shutoff? The low band is interference prone. Both of my low band VHF's are leaving for higher channels as DT's. BTW: Don't let the "virtural channel numbers" fool you. My ch 5 is actually DT on 15. They are not going back to 5 after the transition, but will still be known as "5" due to many years of branding.
