Had the HR20 installed Sat to replace (tho not disconnected due to OTA) Sammy 160. Audio flows thru a Panny xr55. Via the Sammy, when 5.1 was avail, it always showed on the Panny. Moved the optical cable from the sammy to the HR 20 and it never shows 5-channel audio. Do you folks all get 5.1 thru the HR20 when it's avail? Anything else I should try? (Did change the setup on the HR20 to DD5.1) Thanks.

Check your receiver. Can you receive 2.0? Could be as simple as pushing a button to enable that input to accept digital signals. With my Panasonic receiver a green light has to be on for that input to receive the digital signal.

I have 5.1 working with the HR20. I have Toslink cables directly from the HR20 to my 5.1 receiver.
My 5.1 is working fine on the HR20. I have an optical cable going from the HR20 to my Marantz reciever. All my HD locals and HD package channels show I'm getting the digital signal and 5.1 when available. When I hooked up my second replacement DVR I noticed I wasn't getting the 5.1 signal and I had to go into the DVR setup and switch back and forth between the 5.1 on/off mode a few times before I got it to show 5.1 on the Marantz reciever. Good luck.

I have a optical cable running direct from the HR20 to a Yamaha receiver works great. I am just curious are you running the audio signal through a TV or other sat receiver then to your home theater receiver?

My optical cable is feeding a Pioneer decoder/amplifier. It detects DD 5.1 with no issues. It does however have problems switching from DD 5.1 to non DD. I get no audio. If I change my amp to another input and then back to the optical, it works. I didnt have this problem with my non HD Tivo. I think the HR20 needs work on the digital audio stream hand shaking.

And sorry for imposing my lame sensor of humor on you all. :)

On Saturday I had my HR20 installed (Let's not go there over the D* and Ironwood 0% customer satisfaction), but to to get my 5.1 to work I turned on the 5.1 from the menu. It did not work till I "reset" the unit from the menu as well. Now all the 5.1 is fine. Hope this helps :)

Sorry about the shorthand. I'm almost 60, so I learned proper English. Just trying to communicate quickly.

The Panasonic was showing 5.1 perfectly when it was coming throught the Samsung. All I did was pull the optical cable out of the Samsung and plug it into the HR20. Did not touch the other end which goes right into the Panasonic XR55. Nothing in between.

As I said, I did the reset on the HR20 to set it to DD5.1 I'll try the tip above tonight and see if that helps.

Thanks all. Will keep you posted.
