I had an HR-20 installed on 12/26. I set the audio option for DD 5.1 to "on". In this configuration, the audio works fine for non-5.1 audio but produces no audio for 5.1 broadcasts. If I change the configuration to "off", standard audio works on all channels. I am using a digital optical audio connection. Any ideas?

Check the connection on the HR20. It seems to fall out very easily. I use the optical connection to a Bose and it displays either the PCM or Dolby 5.1.

But the connection seems to be weak on the fiber cable locking into the connection itself.

Could you please provide some more information:

Make/model/age of receiver
Connecting how to your TV: HDMI, Component, HDMI>DVI
What does the front panel of receiver say? Does it change display when moving to a DD channel? (i.e. Bose changes from pcm to Dolby 5.1. or Yamaha changes from Sur. Standard>Dolby Digital) This can easily be seen by changing from a standard channel (i.e. 206 to channel 70 or 95 which is almost always in DD).
Have you tried any other connections to your receiver?
Have you tried a red button reset on the HR20 as this has been known to correct some issues with the DD on the boxes in the past.

Thanks, and this will help diagnose any problems.
