When I jump forward through a commercial on a previously recorded program the machine seems to get ahead of itself by about 1.5-2 minutes. So I have to back it up. This is a consistent problem. Any clues?
I keep jumping it until I see the program. Then I stop. At that point I have to back it up 3-4 clicks until I get to the end of the commercial.

I suspect you are pressing the skip forward button one more time than you need to. It jumps forward 30 seconds every press, while the jump back button jumps back 10 seconds every press. 3 clicks back equal 1 click forward roughly, so you are at the end of the last commercial before the show comes back, one more skip forward takes you 30 seconds into the show, and then 3 skips back takes you back to end of the final commercial.

I usually count my clicks. Most commercial breaks are an even number to make a whole minute. ABC movies seem to be the worst with as many as 11 clicks to get through each break. I usually do 4 quick clicks then a brief viewing between clicks after that to see if the show is back yet. If I go to far, I hit the 10 second back till I hit the end of the commercial.

I have discovered a tremendous new application for the 30 second skip button. This happens to be the time that it normally takes from the end of a football play to the start of the next. Therefore one can zip through a football game with blazing speed and not miss a single play. I recently watched the first half of one game during halftime of one I was watching live.

Of course you miss all of the insightful commentary from the announcers, but in most games that isn't missing much.
