When I get problems with my 3900, I just pop the smart card out and put it back in and the problems usually disappear. Give that a try.
501 and 3900 loss of video
In the past couple of days I have experienced a loss of picture (totally black screen) but retained perfect audio. Both times it happened as I was switching channels, or going to the EPG, I don't remember which. This happened once each to a 3900 and a 501. These two IRDs are on separate antennas/lnbf's.
In both cases power off and then on did not immediately fix the problem. After switching around from channel to channel, the EPG, etc. the picture finally returned.
I'd call Dish tech non-support but I don't feel like taking their "harrassment" to see what they know about this.
It just seems strange to me that the same symptom occured on two different receivers on two separate antennas.
Anyone else experienced this?

The same thing happened to me not long ago on my 3900 (upgraded 3800). I turned it off, removed the smart card, put it back in, then turned it back on. The video returned but without color for a minute or two. The color then returned and all has been well since then.
Just happened again on the 501. This is getting real annoying after all the problems I've had with Dish recievers. Three defective 501's in a four week period! I won't even mention all the problems with 7100's!!
