There have been some reports with problems with the hard drive in the 501. My suggestion would be to call Dish now and have the unit replaced before it fails. That way you won't be without your Dish waiting for a new unit.
Also, when you call them, try to talk to them about waiving the fee to return the unit (I think it's $14.95).
