Can you watch one DN channel and record another DN channel with the 501?

Basically, no. The 501 does not have dual tuners. The upcoming 721 will have them.

My answer to a 721 is that I have 2 -501s. I got my first 501 for free through last year's Club Dish deal. I got my second 501 for the $199 Dishplayer upgrade program. So I have far less money invested in two 501's than the cost of one 721.
