501 to 622/722 upgrade, what do i need?

I was talking with a Dish rep the other day and since I never trust their information, figured I'd check here first :)

currently have a 622 upstairs, 501 down (about 10 ft from the DP-34 switch)

I would like to upgrade the 501 to a 722, which I would then place upstairs since i need the larger hd there, and move the 622 downstairs. Of course I have the correct cables upstairs, what came up in the call was the rep saying I had to pay $125 for the upgrade w/ installation rather than being able to get just the upgrade w/o installation.

Since the 622 would end up 10 ft from the dp-34, if I need to run an extra cable, that won't be much of a problem :) But something that came up in the conversation was, with splitters/separators. i know my 622 came with one of those 1 cable to 2 input adapters (I call it a splitter, the rep calls it a separator, oh well :) ) which I would like to know, will it work with the slightly older stuff i have and the single cable running to the 501 now, or will I simply need the extra cable for the 2nd tuner??

And Should I really have any issues getting this as just an upgrade w/o installation? (and I take it $75 is the best price I'll get on the upgrade?)

Thanks all

I did the same thing about six months ago. I don't have the dp34 switch in my setup but I don't think it makes any difference.
Just take the cable currently going to the 501 and connect it to the supplied separator and the two cables from the separator to the two inputs on the receiver.
After many phone calls I managed to convince them that I could hook it up myself and got them to ship me a 722. Cost me $75.00 instead of the $125.00 that they originally wanted.
You will probably have to go past the normal CSR's as they cannot override the installation requirement. I was already working with a higher department on another problem and got my upgrade through them.
Hope this helps.
thanks, now to wait for it to show up :)

That's what you need to do.

While it may look like a splitter, the function is actually that of a diplexer working on DishPro bandwidths. Dish chooses to call it a Separator.

 It makes a big difference. The Separator can only be used with a DishPro Plus switch to feed a dual-tuner receiver. The DP34 is not a Plus switch. If rogueone wants to use the Separator, the DP34 needs to be replaced with a DPP33, or remove the DP34 and replace the DP Twin with a DPP Twin.
