508 remote addressing

1103 Views 5 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  Mark Lamutt
After getting my 508 up and running, I had a remote addressing confilict with my 4000. I set the 508 addressing to #4. The conflict is resolved. However, when I did this the 508 no longer responded to my IR universal remote(pronto).

To resolve this, I set the 4000 address to #4 and the 508 back to #1.

My question is, why did the 508 stop responding to IR signals?
Does it only respond to IR when remote addressing is set to #1?

Most (all) universal remotes are preprogramed with the codes for address #1 for any other address you must use a LEARNING remote.
Did you teach the pronto the IR codes when your 508 was set to address 1, or address 4? The codes are different for each address.
Actually, I didn't do any teaching yet in this case. The Pronto was programmed for use on a 3000 that the 508 replaced. From the replies here, it would seem that these 3000 IR codes would be the same as ir codes for address 1 on the 508.
I experienced this with my 6000. I programmed my Pronto then changed the code for my 6000 and then had to reprogram the Pronto (don't ask).

You nailed it - the ir codes are the same for the same remote address no matter which box you use. Granted, there are more codes used with the 508 than with the 3000, but the codes are the same. You'll need to relearn the codes into the pronto for the new address.

I have my pronto programmed with the codes for addresses 7, 8 and 9 for my 3 receivers.
