Quick question, because it seems like I'm getting a bit of a run-around from my installer. The guy that was supposed to be here Wednesday, but arrived sans dish and pole, has now obtained a 5LNB dish but says that he is having trouble finding a pole. They had none in stock at his store, so he's going to look elsewhere.

How thick is the 5LNB dish pole? He said you can't just buy it at Lowe's, and a quick Google and eBay search hasn't given me an answer. I have the 3LNB dish now, and I know the pole is too small, but I can't find the actual size (diameter I presume) of the 5LNB dish's pole.

Anyone know?

My installer said it was 2" - i was upset since I wanted to reuse my existing mount ... but he had to put on a new one...

I have the slimline...

It is indeed 2" OD which is sort of hard to come by. Many use 2 3/8" OD which is easier to find (Home Depot electrical department) and then use a cut off part of the mount post that comes with the dish (the one with the bend) and slide it down into the 2 3/8" and cross bolt. It's not a perfect fit, but you can use some thin sheet metal or cut up a soda can to wrap around it as a shim between the two. Here is a picture of mine. It's not going to move - ever.:)

Also, I have heard that you can find 2"OD at a muffler shop.

Can the pole be a little larger than 2 inches? I have 2 1/8 inch and 2 3/8 inch poles. Will one or both of these poles work?

Read the post right above yours about 2 3/8" . :) The 2 1/8" 'might' work by itself. It looks like the dish mount would spread enough to fit around it.

Yes it is 2 inch od thats needed which i abit bigger then the 3 lnb dish needed. I got mine at a local muffler shop...worked perfectly. Lowes and Home Depot don't have any pipes that exact size either. Hope this helps :)

Thank you (and to the others) who helped. He ended up finding the pole just fine and now it's been installed. All seems well (though I'm going to want to check some of my peaks - I'll be doing a search to see what those should be soon).

Actually Home Depot sells the correct pipe. I got 1.5" schedule 40 galvanized. They sell it in 10 foot sections for about $23.00. I had them cut it down to 6 feet and it worked great. Very sturdy. The OD is 2".

Just use a standard fence corner post...it's 2 1/4"...that's what mine is mounted on and it's been fine since my movers...really bad wind, rain, hail...but I'm in that kind of area...The tech that installed mine pored cement down the pole then all around it...
