The 6000 will do that if watching a local digital channel, you have to switch to a satellite channel BEFORE hitting the guide button.
6000 problem? Acquiring Satellite
This is bugging me...
Many times I hit GUIDE and it gives me the acquiring satellite message. I know this happens if you lose sat signal and regain it (like during a storm) but I never get a message that I lost sat and my signal strengths are all excellent.
I think it happens if I have been watching digital local for a long time (I have the 8VSB). Does it think since I havent been watching satellite that it needs to check if the signal is there?
Or is my guide getting out of date and it is downloading (but thats a different message).

Yuk. Thats what I was afraid of.
I was just trying to use the guide to switch to another channel easier. I made an HDTV favorites list and hit channel up and down but if I am on Channel 002-01 and want to go to 039-01 whats the shortest way to do that? 0-3-9-0-1?

You got it. I have all my channels programmed in as macros in my pronto remote, so I hit one button, and it sends 0-3-9-0-1 to my 6000 to change the channel.
Kevin, use the transparent browse to change channels because, as you know, with the 6000 or any other Dish receiver, it seems they don't always take every keypress you send them, so the channel you punch in may not be valid and you will still get the "Acquiring" screen.
The odd thing with the 6000 is that you can power off on an OTA channel and the guide will stay current.

Why they didn't put more memory in the 6000, I really don't know (well I do know, $$$)! :bang:

Charlie is just plain cheap? Lack of memory effects all 1st gen receivers, and I think the 6000 is sorta a Hybrid between the old and new.
