When my DISH 622 was orginally installed we had to swap TVs in our TV 2 location. The installer told my wife that the orginal TV would not work for this installation. Tonight I tried connecting yet a different set in place of the one that we had been using and I could not get it to display DISH programming. It was originally configured for Cable Channel 73. I tried switching to over the air channels, but I could not get it to work. Any suggestions on how to make this work?

Any TV that will accept a coax input (which is basically all tvs) will work for a remote tv. Make sure the tv is on the same channel that the 622 is outputting the signal. Go to Menu 6, 1, 5 to see which channel it is on.

Thank you very much for the reply. Maybe I will try this again a little bit later. The set that I tried has a coaxial input and works fine with an antenna for OTA NTSC broadcast, but it is an analog tuner not digital if that matters at all. I made sure that the TV 2 output was analog, so I thought I would be able to get it via the mechanical UHF tuner, but no go. The other set that I tried also would not get it when I did a channel scan. I thought the DISH manual said something about the TV must be cable-ready, is that correct or is that information erroneous?

I did try yet another 13" set as TV2 and it worked just fine. It does seem pretty unlikely that I could actually have two other different sets that are not compatible with the 622 as TV2. I definitely need to do some more experimenting with this.

You should be able to get any TV to work as TV2. What did the Dish installer say was wrong with using the original TV? I am using an old TV that does not even have coax input by using an adapter from coax to the old screw down terminal connections. You just have to have the TV set to the same channel as the 622 is outputting on. If the TV2 has multiple input options be sure you have the right one selected.

I did some more experimenting tonight and cmae up with some interesting results. I added 50 feet of RG-6 cable to my existing TV2 and I did not notice any degradation of picture quality. I then tried an old 13" Craig TV and the picture quality was terrible. I then went and removed the 50 feet of cable and the picture quality was good on the Craig again, so I gather that the sensitivity of the tuners of different TVs can vary considerably. That being the case, can anyone recommend any amplifiers that will work well? Will most any new amplifier work well for adding an additional TV to the installation?

The other thing I was thinking about is the whole TV2 scenario and how it really makes me glad that I bought a TV with BOTH NTSC AND ATSC integral tuners. I suppose that there might be other work-arounds, but to have a monitor only TV in the TV2 location might have some limitations. I wonder if the plan for the manufacturers is to eventually phase out the NTSC tuners. Will most manufacturers want to even bother including an NTSC tuner after the early 2009 sunset date?
