I will be installing a 622 soon. I am leaving my 921. I have Minneapolis locals which are broadcast in HD by Dish. Will my locals look better (when in SD) without using my OTA or is there a noticable difference if I use my OTA? I would like to take down my antenna if it is not needed. I know I am giving up a tuner. I am about 50miles away from the OTA signal. I am using a 42 Panasonic Plasma.

Unless you've got a bu** ugly antenna, why take it down? Not only are you giving up a tuner, you're giving up some of your locals that are probably in HD (PBS? FOX?). I know that's the case in Seattle.

Personally I would keep the antenna. Nice to have the third option for your HD Content and also for the PBS. As far as PQ difference, it will differ from situation to situation, but for me the OTA is a tad better. Also, I am currently running into some audio issues from time to time on my Dish HD locals and having the OTA gives me another option.

I think it is a huge added benefit and I would keep it up unless you really can't stand that large antenna...

Then you are connecting your OTA to the 622 and not your T.V.?

Yep - connect the antenna to the 622 (in my case, I use a splitter & connect OTA antenna to both 622 & HDTV for more flexibility) so that you can RECORD the OTA locals via the 3rd tuner in the 622. Almost a necessity in our house where there's lots of network shows being DVR'd.

With the OTA connected to the 622 you can record three programs at one time. Without it you are limited to two programs at a time. Depending on what you want to record, that extra tuner sure comes in handy at times. I could not do without it now that I am used to having it there.

If you've got a good OTA signal, any splitter will work fine - I just had an old one in a drawer that I used. This way, If the 622 is busy recording & I want to watch a different OTA channel, can just watch it on the HDTV using its built-in tuner.
