I do not like the hard drive running when a receiver is not even on. This has to be a lot of extra wear and tear.

Any way to tell the 625 to halt hard drive when receivers are off.

Probably not as it would take too long to reboot each time a recording even came up correct?

You might have a bad receiver.
Figured all 625's did this. Its not loud at all, but if you place your ear approx a foot away you can hear the hard drive running and making light scratch noises like a computer does, even when receivers are off.

Don't all 625's do this? Want to confirm before calling in.

Thanks.

The hard drive is always on and always recording the incoming streams; this is how you have "live buffers". And the DVR has to always be running to record your shows, which may come on when your receiver is "OFF".

Turning the receiver "OFF" only turns off the video processing portion of the receiver. This is normal and how ALL DVRs work. Heck, TiVos don't even pretend; there's no Power or On/Off buttons.
