After 1 year of trouble free SWM I had 771 on Sat 2 on two DVRs. Called CS and after diagnosing it showed "too many recievers". She told me I need a biger SWM because it is "tired". She told me the service will be free ($50 normally). Will the new SWM be free? Do I need a new SWM?
After calling I read here
http://www.dbstalk.com/showthread.php?t=173593
that 30 min unplug of receiver + SWM power supply may solve the problem. No problem (Thank you).
Tech is coming tomorrow. Should I cancel or I need a new SWM?

I have:
6 DVR on 3 floors(long cables). Problem DVRs are closest to SWM
SWM power supply, which is on my roof travels 50+ feet on exsisting cabling.
Whole-Home.

SWM power supply on your roof? SWM's do not get tired.
sorry SWM is on the roof next to the dish. The power supply is far on the first floor.

I was smiling too when she said that:)

So you have a SWM8 or SWM16 and it is on the roof? Not a good place for it to be for sure it may have gotten water in one of the connections causing your problem.

EDIT just saw your signature shows swm16. Can you get to it and check connections for water migration? Or if tech is coming for free just have them check it.

SWM16 mounted on my chimney below dish. Where is it usually installed?

Well, since the service call is free, you are just out the time of the call. I suspect, as others, that you have water issues in your SWM16 connections particularly with all the rain in our area [LA, CA] recently. I even had a bit of rain fade during the worst part.

The SWM boxes are usually put under the eves to keep them away from direct rain contact. It sounds like yours is right where it can get rain on the connectors; not good. I suspect the tech will move your box or at least put some good weather protected connectors on you lines.

Please let us know how this turns out.

Thank you.

I am glad he came even tough after restart I did not have a 771 in 24 hours.
He installed a new SWM 16 in the same location in spite my request to cover it with a gray plastic box electricians use it. He said the weatherproof connectors are enough. He replaced some dry, exposed cables and realigned my dish. Before I had some mid 70s and 80s signals. Now 80s and 90s.

771 came back 24 hours after new SWM reinstallation. The only solution is SWM power source reset.
The picture gets pixelated, audio becomes interrupted or audio from other channels.
So most likely the problem was not from the old SWM or recievers. Directv software maybe? Help please.

Thought you have this resolved. :eek2:

What does the SWM screen look like under signal strengths during this time?
After restart when everything is good

1-8 98 97 0 0 97 95 0 92
9-16 94 N/A-------------------

Well that really helps, when it working.

The zeros come from other receivers on this SWiM leg.
If they're all on the signal screen, they release [or sure as hell should] the channels, so the zeros go away.
#1 is the guide data channel, so 2-9 are used by tuners.

Also check that all unused splitter ports are terminated.
I asked the tech to do it yesterday.

He did not swap the SWM power source and the unused port is not terminated.
It had no terminal cover since the original installation 1 year ago.

Open ports will do strange things, since the RF will reflect off of them and can interfere with the other signals.

The worst case I've read here about this, was on a SWiM-16, and the receiver reported no SWiM channels available, when it was the only receiver connected.

"While it may not" resolve all your problems, it would be the first thing to do attempting to resolve it.

I turned on all my 6 receivers: 8 and 9 are 93-94 on all.
1-7 on two recievers are 100. On other 4 receivers 97-98.

I will record the numbers when the problem starts.
