today i received the 771a message on my HR21. before i called direct, i did the red button reset and pulled the receiver plug. still got no signal and the 771a message. they had me check the swm behind the tv, pull the plug and try again. no good. my other 3 tv's are fine. they have to send a service man out and the earliest this can happen is next monday. thank goodness i have the protection plan or who knows how long i would have to wait. i also found out that it is my responsibility to check my account to see if an earlier service call becomes available and i have to reschedule the call. is this a simple call of just changing out the swm?

Could be a loose wire somewhere, might not even require a new module. Try tightening all the cables you can find.

wiring issue was cause for my 771a issues. Wired was crammed into wall box at 90 degree angle. Surprisingly, a secluded wire that was not touched after installation a year ago finally started getting signal degradation enough to cause errors.

I feel your pain on the 771 error. I was receiving them intermittently this past spring. DTV changed every connection, splitter, & antenna but left the SWM16 alone. The next day everything froze and stayed froze u til the techs got here. Went straight to SWM16 and checked that all lines going in we're good. Swapped out the 16 and haven't had an issue since then.
