Last month I noted CBS in Philly was fixed. This past weekend NBC and CW were free of the 8mm effect.

What is the 8mm effect exactly? Sorry for the ignorance but I have never heard of it.

For fast motion (like football and hockey) it is a stuttering video effect, almost like frames are missing from the video. It has been a problem with some MPEG-4 locals since day 1 (which is about a year for Philly).
It is caused by encoding the interlaced channels with an incorrect field order.
The day before the 8mm effect disappeared from NBC and CW in Philly, for some weird reason, WPVI (ABC) was completely out, all pixels and sound breakups (on both the HR20 and the H20). I used the SD feeds on our R10, but the next day, WPVI was back, and the 8mm effect was gone from both NBC and CW. Must have been related, but not sure how.

Is this the same as macro-blocking?
Guess so. The screen is full of strange looking squares and stuff. Macro-blocking, pixelating? Unwatchable is the best description.

They probably just upgraded the MPEG4 encoders for Philly. Congrats!
does anyone still have the audio sync issue with nbc cause I still do, and I hate it.
