How do I get the best deal on a new hd dvr I see they sell for 199.99 but is there a way to get it at a better price ?

The $9.99 HD Access fee is per account, so it would cover any HD capable receivers you have in your home.

As for price, you can always call and see what they can do for you. Some people have better luck with this than others. A few people have managed to get a HR20/21 free, some for $99, and some can't seem to get below $199.

Be aware that adding that activating a new advanced receiver will extend your contract out to 24 months from the date of activation of the new receiver.

All the prices you see for the HR series are heavily discounted and subsidized by a 24 month contract extension, much like a cell phone. The HD access fee and the DVR fee are billed per account, you will be charged for an additional receiver monthly, I believe $4.99.

Most people prefer not to pay full price up front for cell phones. You can if you prefer purchase a HR21 outright from DirecTV(only place that sell outright, I believe) for what I have heard is between $600.00-700.00, and not have a contract.
