Well, I made the swap from my 942 to the 622 and the first thing I notice is that the HD PQ is much softer than on the 942. Has anyone else experienced this problem. I am sooooo disappointed. Called tech support and they are switching out the receivers, although I am not sure how much good it will do. Also, the 942 was a leased unit and the CR said I only have 10 days to return the 942 for the $100 credit. As of today I don't even have the return shipping labels. Has anyone else had problems getting the receiver credit. I told the CR that if the new 622 didn't resolve the problems that I wanted to resume using the 942 and switch back to my old programming.

Couple things to check.

1) Make sure you 622 is set to 1080i or 720p and that you are using component or HDMI. It defaults to 480P so that might explain the softness.

2) Are you using the exact same inputs are your 942? If not, possible a TV calibration might be the cause.

Most people have said the 622 provides a better picture than the 942 or at least equal. Not heard many say it was a step back. It was a step forward on my 811 and 921.

My guess is something is wrong in your set up or you have your output or you 622 set incorrectly.

Thanks Ron for the feedback -

Everything about the setup is as it was. In fact I watched Spiderman 2 on superbit DVD this morning and it looks better than my HD. I did a hard reboot this morning with no improvement. DiscoveryHD now looks like TNTHD did on the 942 and TNTHD now looks like a normal SD broadcast. In fact, when I switch the resolution to 480P on the receiver - there is no change in PQ. It does however slightly change the location of the image on the TV. Oh woe is me!!! Unfortunately my TV is an older Mits and I have no built in tuner to compare to and I also have no HDMI. I only have 1 component input.

Wow, if changing from 1080i or 720P to 480p doesn't provide much difference something has really got to be wacky! What size / kind of display is your Mits? Can you tell a difference on the 942 when you switch between 1080/720 to 480?

You said you only have one component input, what input do you have the DVD player hooked up to? (BTW - Spiderman 2 SuperBit is an AWESOME looking movie! :eek2: )

The Mits is a 55" CRT. I also have a component for the DVD player, but it only outputs 480p. I have no 720p capability. Since the 942 was a lease reciever I can't switch between the 2 for comparison. It almost looks as if the 622 is stuck in 480p output. :( The same thing happened when I switched from my old 6000 to D* and their Tivo unit. Very soft picture and I cancelled same day. Seems like every time I upgrade -- I end up with a downgrade

The 622 is likely outputing 480P. You need to change the 622 so it outputs 1080i. The 622 ships with a default setting of 480. You need to go into the 622's menu and change to 1080.

I am another user that went from a 942 to a 622 and my impression on component was that they were the same, on HDMI I thought my 622 showed a tad more detail, but they may have been the same. Definitely not a step back in my expierence.

It really sounds like your watching in 480p, like others have said, which is the default setting for a 622 out of the box.

I know this will sound silly. Remove all cables from your 622 to your mits except component. Lets make sure that what you are viewing is the component outputs and make sure like others that you are set to 1080i and 16x9.

Something is really wacky here for sure.

Since this is a new installation be sure to try rebooting the 622 after you set the output to 1080i. When brand new mine wouldn't really output in anything but 480 until I rebooted it.

Is that Mits a 16x9 or a 4x3 screen? As I remember the 55 mits was a 4x3 1st gen HDTV. You will need to go Menu, 6 (system setup), 8 (HDTV setup) then set aspect to 4x3 #1 and TV type 1080I and analog type Offair if it is the set I'm thinking of then save the settings. It will ask you to confirm that you want to change aspect ratios. If it is a 16x9 the only thing is the aspect ratio should list as 16x9. I hope this fixes the problem if it doesn't then the output for the 622 has an internal error and needs to be exchanged. There is no pq diff between the 942 and the 622. The only diff between the 2 is the mpeg 4 and the sacrifices that E* is having to make with the resolution on some of the channels until they get the mpeg 4 running up to snuff.

This Mits is a widescreen 1st gen. unit.

The receiver is set to output 1080i at 16x9

Already tried a hard reboot with no improvement A new unit is on the way.
I hope that solves the problem. Thanks for all of your suggestions.
I will post an update when the new unit arrives.
