Hi. I hope this isn't already posted. I checked DTV's website the other day to check the price of their HD DVR and they're offering it for $99 for "valued customers" (free installation). The other receivers are free with free installation. I've been with DTV since 1996. I'm waiting for it to be installed today!

I just wanted to share this and I hope this is helpful.:)

Sucks, I guess I am not a valued customer. I only see the DVR Plus for 99.00, mine still shows the HD DVR at 199.00

No love for me either. Good thing too cuz I would probably have gone for it if it was just $99
Yep, me too. I have been begging for a reason to replace my SD TiVo in the basement, but not for 200 dollars. Not yet anyways.

Nothing beats a phone call... You can't sweet-talk a URL into a better deal... Like all negotiations, the best deal is not the first one offered. If you are willing to spend 30~45~60 minutes on the phone, I can almost guarantee you will get a better deal than the website... Even if it's some free channels, or a discount.

FYI, I upgraded from my old HD receiver to new HD DVR for basically $40 ($20 shipping + $20 tax). Later I got my AM21 for 50% off...

Also, don't forget this thread (if it applies):

How to get an additional $240 off as a new DirecTV customer

PS. Customer since 2004 - This was my first D* funded upgrade.

Wow! I see you've been with dtv since 99. I have an old HD mpeg2 receiver in the bedroom, I wonder if its incentive to replace it? But why don't they just email me with the offer?

When will they shut down the mpeg2 feed?

Thing is I don't really want to get another receiver but if they are going to flaunt one in my face for $99 I'd kinda have to. :)

Rats. I just switched to HD service last Fall, and got a deal on my HD DVR via service credits that essentially made it nearly free. So I doubt I'd qualify for any deals on a 2nd one, even at $99.

I would surely jump on one at that price, though.

No free or $99 HD DVRs for me online either, but in fairness I have to admit I didn't pay anything for my HD DVRs at all.

Call a CSR and ask nicely would be my suggestion to anyone who wants a better price than what you see online.

No dice for me. Even though I am no longer under a commitment, they keep screwing up my commitment date, so the system thinks I have 20 months left on my commitment and won't authorize a discount. Plus, every time they correct a billing error or refund an erroneous non-return fee, their system counts it as a freebie, so they think I am way over my discount limit.

(I actually had a CSR tell me once that I can't call anymore to have them fix mistakes because they have given me too many credits. I told him that if they want me to stop asking them to fix their mistakes, then they should stop making mistakes.)

I spoke to a CSR yesterday about this, I was thinking of getting another box either HD or HD/DVR, she said they have discounted offers for "valued" customers. I asked what it takes to be a "valued" customer, after 20 minutes of her talking in circles:

I said so you have to be a customer for at least 6 months with an account that has been and is in good standing, she said well not necessarily

ok, So I asked am I considered a valued customer, she said she doubts it because I have not been a customer for 6 months...

I said so it is a minimum of 6 months before i can be considered a "valued" customer ? she again not necessarily...

So I am not sure what it takes to be considered "valued"

Well I'm not a valued customer either.

I've been with DirecTv since April 2007 and have never been late on a payment. I was w/ DirecTv from 7/01 through 7/06, but that doesn't count toward my "years of service".

The wife just bought a new lcd for the basement and I'm going to add another receiver. For $99 the dvr sounded great, but for $199 + shipping I might pass and get just the receiver.

Any thoughts about my mpeg2 receiver? Aren't they going to cut the feed so they want all customers on mpeg4?

I kinda hope they don't make me the $99 offer for a third HD DVR...

because then I'd have to buy another HDTV.
I only have 1 HDTV, but 3 HD Receivers. Nothing like an HD channel on an SDF set. Picture is so clear it looks HDish. Plus I get the extra HD channels and am future proofed for when I can afford another HD for the bedroom and office.

I think what everyone has to remember with DirecTV is that offers (aside from new customer offers) aren't advertised nationally because they generally don't apply to everyone. If you get offered something it doesn't mean that the next guy will. Additionally, offers that are circulated on their website generally have the "Select customers only" verbiage at the end.

It doesn't mean that you're not a valued customer, it just means that you haven't met their criteria for that particular offer. They're looking for ROI (return on investment). They're not going to invest in your account (i.e., give you a discounted anything) if their models don't think they're going to get an attractive return on that investment. If you see it as unfair to have a computer model pigeonhole you into a certain group then you ought to do business with a smaller company that doesn't see you as an account number. It is what it is. Don't get upset because that guy over there got something you didn't - the circumstances are likely very different.

I realize that the folks who start these threads have the best intentions but more often than not it just creates angst for those that don't get the same deals.
