My neighbor, who I directed to "D" had an installation at his home on Dec 26th. Everything went fine and he has enjoyed becoming a customer of "D". Yesterday he called me and asked my why he wasnt receiving ESPN ch 206 on his high def TV. I went over and checked his signal strength on the 99c sat (D11) and he showed all zeros. It appears from my observation that the 99 sat is being blocked by a row of trees.
Since "D" installed, will they come back out and find a spot to move his dish to so he can catch the 99 degree satellite without charging him? His house gable side may also work from my observation.
He is obviously anxious to resolve this. He can pick up the MPEG2 channles in the 70's for now but all the new programing that will be coming from D11 would be missed..

It is EXTREMELY unusual if his 99 sat is being blocked by trees since it is so close to 101. If trees are a 99 problem now they will become a 101 problem soon. So you need to be sure that's the problem.
Post back with all the signals from 101 and also from 103c. Check both tuners to make sure they are the same. Also check tuner 2 to see if the 99c signals are zero on tuner 2.

I think his dish was improperly aligned from the get go. I have always had Ironwood communications out and dispite other opinions, I have always felt they did a good job. The installer for my neighbor came in an unmarked truck and seemed to have little knowledge of what he was doing. I normally know more about sat locations etc than the installers (thanks to all the education i get here on DBS but this guy was really not with it.
I think it is entirely possible that trees are not the issue but more a poorly aligned dish. Note the 103C readings..he is clearly not dealing with trees there and his figures are half of mine. My dish is about 80 from his

By monpoles, do you mean the extra pole type supports from the 4x4 post to reinforce the dish. If so, yes it has them and the dish, post and all seem very secure.

Will "D" fix an install error at no cost to him. Yes it is over 90 days but the poor alignment still gave him all channels as there was no D11 in orbit back in late December. He did complain of rain fade more that i was experiencing but I never thought much into a very poorly aligned dish. I do remember looking at his 101 readings a few months ago and the seemed weaker than mine but his picture and all look fine so I never thought much into it. His low readings on sats clearly with no tree issues seem to really point to a poor install alignment. I also did a compass reading today and it appears he has a clear shot at the 99 sat locations. Close but still looks ok.

he started service in Dec? if so, he has waited too long for Directv to be willing to do a free service call. they will sometimes squeeze a 3 1/2 month, but not 6 month or more.

4x4 post? As in wood? If so, well...there's his problem.

Wood will twist and warp small amounts as the seasons and weather changes. He'll be getting realignments until hell freezes over.

Yeah wood's a total no-go. There's a post on here somewhere where the dish had been mounted to a tree. I literally thought it was faked.

With the protection plan in place, you should be able to exercise some muscle in getting it done correctly. At the very least, the pole mount should be steel. There are lots of threads here about proper pole mounting.
