Hello to all I am a new member here and i am puting together my DISH system, and i am buying all of the equipment my self and not going to do the leasing of any of it. Mainly because of my credit is not up to snuff as yet.

So i have a few questions about the actual dish (antenna) it self.
I have found a Dish 1000 (not the super) at a unbelivable price ,less then $25.00
for the whole thing new...but it has no LNB on it....so first off i would like to know if any Dish Network LNB will work on it ?...I can also get the twin pro LNB for about $19.00...all of this is a whol lot cheaper then a new one at $70 or $80 dollars.

My next question has to deal with ,how do i know which Dish LNB i would need if i do end up buying a complete new dish antenna...There is the Dish 1000 105 and the Dish 1000 for the 120 .

When I get it all installed I want to get the 180 program package plus my local channels and maybe Show Time...so how do i know which one i need .
I had read that the 105 has a lot of other city's on it were as the 120 only has a few plus some over seas networks as well.

Thanks to all and any who reply to these questions.

To be honest with you, if you're not going to install the dish and/or receiver(s) yourself, it makes no sense to buy them. You're just wasting your money. Call Dish, tell them what you want and they'll provide all the equipment. Also, I wouldn't worry to much about leasing a receiver (mainly the 622 HD DVR) through Dish. A friend of mine just went through a bankruptcy and recently signed up with Dish and is leasing a 622. He got it with no problems. Why would you want to spend $500 when you can get it for $200. I believe the 622 is the only receiver that you can actually lease, but I may be wrong. All other equipment is provided to you for the cost of installation which, in most cases, is free.

Both of these posts are so full of errors it shows how poorly informed the CABLE public is. Unless you are after HD the dish 500 will work in most places. The Superdishes are being fazed out both 105 and 121. If you don't pass credit check you can still become a customer, DISH wants every customer it can get. All receivers can be leased not just the 622. Call DISH 800-333-3474 and ask what they will do to make you a customer it is a free call.

For SD you should be able to setup for less then $100 without leasing anything. I setup a system for about $45 at the hunting camp no big thing. Need a Dish 500, reciever, wire and connectors.

Regardless of credit ........ I think you better off PURCHASING ALL EQUIPMENT.

I don't see the attraction to PAY MONTHLY to use my tv equipment. Thats one of the reasons I detest crapble....fees for boxes (and this was long before QAM digital, I am talking the old Jerrold/GI 400's etc..)..

I own my stuff and have not upgraded from my original 5K since the PVR's were until recently leases only, no thanks. I just don't get the idea of paying numerous times over for the equipment. Had this lease mode been used when I got Dish I probably wouldn't have done it.

I would find a deal on a reputabe dealer site and purchase your equipment.

YES you will pay $500-600 or more with installation, but in the long run your way better off. Need to move. Take it all down and pack it up. A call to a local dish installer and your back in business. You can even set up a temp spot till the installer gets there... Can't do that with the mover program as you have no dish and lnbf.

Owning is better, unless your of the "upgrade fever" type like cell phone users who have to have the latest "trendy" phone regarldess of its performacnce of as phone, change phones more than they probably change their underwear.

My 5K goes thru a lot and have had ZERO issues with its use all over the place.

If you don't have the $$$ upfront thats a problem, and I am sure will be the next rebuttal post to mine that it makes more business sense to lease to lower cost of entry.......Thats 100% true and correct! It DOES lower the cost of entry and gets more subs, but are they quality subs? What level of programming? Are they likely to run with the next "great offer" from crapble or direcrap? If you've paid for the equipment your more likely to stick around for a while and pay for your monthly sub.

The Cleveland/Akron DMA Standard Definition locals come from the 110º satellite so all you would need for that is a plain Dish 500 getting 110 & 119. If you already have the Dish 1000, that can be used as well. Your locals are not yet available in HD via DISH and it can't be said with certainty what you would need to get them - Dish 1000+ would be my GUESS. Whether or not you are interested in HD, you should reconsider the choice to purchase everything. I've purchased all of mine, so I understand the concept. :) As a new subscriber, what you will pay each month is exactly the same whether the receiver(s) are purchased or leased. The difference would be in initial outlay to purchase them, and that would gain you the ability to deactivate one of your purchased receivers without having to send it back to DISH (as you would if you deactivate a leased receiver).

You DON'T pay any more each month to lease the receivers than you would pay if you purchase them. I'd put that in all caps, but it is harder to read. PVRs weren't lease only in the past. There is an initial $49.99 Activation Fee with the lease plan (Digital Home Advantage or DHA). Any existing DISH subscriber would be able to give you a ClubDISH code that would waive that $50 activation fee. They would also get $5 a month as a referral so just post that you are interested someone would rapidly provide one via a Private Message. You could still chose to not commit to a minimum of 18 months if the term commit is objectionable. If you don't mind the commit, you get a $50 credit on your first bill (even if you didn't pay the activation fee). Your initial cost would just be the 1st two months of programming (possibly less $50 if you don't mind the 18 month commit) and it comes with a $10 / month rebate for 10 months plus 3 months of free Showtime (or HBO, ...).

You owe it to yourself to at least attempt the lease offer. Don't assume you aren't fine in DISH's eyes as a prospective customer (and revenue source).

You can use any Dish LNB on the Dish 1000. It usually comes with a DishPro Plus Twin (110/119) and a DP Dual (129). The DP Twin is fine for your current needs. If you later add 129 you'll need the DPP Twin or a DP34 switch.

Depends on whether you're getting all DBS or adding FSS linear or FSS circular which is determined by your programming. You also need to factor in the number and type of receivers you will have. The EKB Switch Selector can help with the last part.
There is the Dish 1000 105 and the Dish 1000 for the 120 .
The dishes that pick up 105 or 121 are called SuperDISH. They are different from the Dish 1000 which gets 129. All 3 also get 110 and 119.
