Been lurking on the site for awhile, and thought people might be interested in my experience with locals.
I live about 10 miles outside of a major DMA, and when I first signed up with DISH Network in 1999, (some) locals for that DMA were available, but none for my actual DMA.
Hence, I "moved" in order to be allowed to buy locals. When the new smart cards came out a while ago, I "moved" back to my actual location, but DISH Network didn't notice that I switched DMAs, so continued to get the locals from the other DMA (and continued to pay for them, in case anyone was wondering).
Once the free locals preview started, however, I started getting not only the locals I've been getting from the major DMA, but also the locals from my actual DMA, which are now up on 110. This is what I would be getting if I signed up with a local cable provider.
So, the question is, what will happen when the free preview ends? My hope is I'll get to keep the locals from both DMAs, and I'm cool with paying for both of them. My guess, however, is that I'll end up with just the locals from my actual DMA, which is fine, but costs me some sports programming I'd like to keep.
Here endeth the long story. Anybody else have a similar experience? Anyone want to lay odds on how DISH Network will resolve this once the free preview ends?
