Accessing DVR data

I am a newbie to this. I am trying to access my dvr via my computer so I can burn some of the shows on the dvr to a dvd. I have just hooked up my HR20 to the internet so I can have access to VOD. Since my DVR is on my network, is it possible to access the dvr via another computer on the network. I tried acessing it via the IP address but could not access it. Can someone please let me know how to access the DVR and copy it onto a dvd.

Thanks

You can't :( Sorry. I wish it were possible to do what you want but it isn't.
You can do an analog capture to the PC.
I thought that technology was out there. I read that it was possible with the TIVO DVR's

Thanks for everyones input.

unfortunately, D*tv has the dvr on lockdown right now. IIRC i heard someone found an open port after a CE download. but couldn't do anything with it. right now the only way is through the analog connections.

Hacking DirecTV HD DVRs is not there like it was for Tivoboxes....don't look for that to happen either.
Real-time capture to a PC recording device or a dedicated DVD Recorder is the only way to transfer video from the DVR.
So this cannot be accomplished with an ESATA drive attached to it as well?

Thats correct. I believe the files are encrypted anyways.
Based on what I recall from the hacker group that tried for years to “rip” programs from UTV’s, it seems that the data stored on the HD is just the raw stream from the satellite feed. Decrypting it requires the code stored on the access card, which pretty much makes it impossible to ever be able to digitally rip it. The only possibility would be if D* decides to allow digital output via the HR2x's USB or Ethernet ports. Really, I’d be happy if they’d let us rip content via USB even in 480i just to save the hassles of recording them “real time” via composite or S-Video. I don’t want to pirate anything, it’s just that there are some documentary shows I ‘d like to keep that aren’t offered on DVD.
