i happen to be selling my extra dish reciver and i keep getting iquires concerning the card no. and version why and what diffrence does it make

Couple of reasons -

If the inquiries are legit sunscribers - they want to verify that you have no balance on your smartcard regarding PPV's, etc.

If the inquiries are hackers - they want to see if it is worth the bother to try to hack your card/receiver.
