My current setup is a SWMline dish with four DVRS (2 HR21-100s and 2 R16-300s). From what I understand, my current setup is maxed out since I have a total of eight tuners in use.

I am thinking about purchasing another DVR. The coax is already in place and I am thinking about installing it myself. What other hardware would be needed? Can I get some kind of splitter/multiswitch for the fifth receiver?

You'll need another dish. Or convert to a legacy setup and go with external SWM8s.

I think you're going to need a second dish.

Trying a 8way splitter before going with the extra dish route would be a bit simpler. No guarantee it would work though, but then again it might.

And if the playing with the splitters doesn't work and the 2nd dish just isn't an option at all, and you're willing to sink a chunk of change into it, this setup using two SWM8's makes about 22 tuners total possible on one dish.

The single coax from the SWMLine dish does in fact connect to a SWS-8 splitter (similar to the pic). Then there are four lines that run to each receiver.

Would it be as simple as connecting another line to the SWS-8 splitter? Does anyone know for sure before I go out and buy a new receiver?

If I need another dish, that wouldn't be a problem - what dish would I need and where is a good place to get one?

It wont work.
If you are using 8 tuners now, you cannot add anymore without splitting the signals above the SWM8 and putting in another. If you have the SWMLine, you have to either get another dish. or put the standard Slimline 5 back and then split the 4 signals to a 2nd SMW8

Everyone has given you good advice.

It should be pointed out that, if you can live with a couple of the DVRs operating as single tuner boxes, you could set them up that way and add another.

That may or may not be a reasonable solution for how/where you use them.
