Just had DirecTV installed on Friday. I changed from Comcast to DirecTV because of the crappy picture quality on my HDTV and boy what a difference.

Now, I am wondering is it possible to add a hard drive on to the DrecTV DVR? I have the WD Expander, would that work?

Thanks!

You can only replace the hard drive, not add on to it. There are various threads that address this. Check out the "tips and tricks" threads.

Well let me be amongst the first to welcome you to DBSTalk, Thomamon!

As far as adding an additional hard drive to your DVR, its a relatively simple process. Just make sure its formatted, plug it in, reset the system, and you're good to go. However, the DVR won't let you use the space from both the internal and the external simultaeneously. It will only use one or the other, and if the external is the one connected that'll be the one you're using.

Thanks so much for the welcomes! This site looks great :)

OK, so if I had the drive connected to TiVo, will it still work and be formatted for the DTV then? I mean, since I have it already, I know its not much of a difference, but I might as well use the 500 GB drive and gain a few extra hours.

Where are the "Tips and Tricks" threads? I am sure they are obvious, and I am just missing them :)
