Had this happen this past weekend...Brief power interruption(1Sec)HR34 is plugged into a UPS. 34 popped up a message that said there was a "cabling problem" and I should check the cable connection or the power supply. Never saw that before, but I checked, all connections were OK. Message would not go away. I then unplugged the power inserter and re-plugged it. The message went away and things have been fine since. Can I plug the power inserter into the UPS? I was under the impression it was NOT to be used, only plug it directly into a wall outlet. Is this correct? Can the CCK be plugged into the UPS? Also during last nights thunderstorm, whenever lightning flashed there was a brief interruption in audio, but video continued uninterrupted. Any idea why? thanks for any help....

There is every reason to plug the power inserter and everything else that is semi-delicate into a UPS. I've had everything in the home theater setup plugged into the ups system here for many years. I have 3 ups boxes on my HT rack, each rated > 600w. Even the 60" Sammy LED/LCD is on one.

The PI is fine on a UPS. Many people here have had it that was for years with out any problem and it is good for exactly those situations. Power blinks and your receivers stay running but the LNB looses power and you loose signal anyway.

I believe that a lot of installers tell customer's it has to be plugged into a wall because they are trying to avoid issues with power strips being turned off and the whole directv system loosing signal because the PI is turned off.

This is a known issue on the HR34 and one I've seen myself. When there is a critical error like a power failure, the on-screen display does not clear until the HR34 is rebooted.

I had an installer tell me they fail QC for it being plugged in to a UPS or power strip. Wall plug only. I plugged mine right in to the UPS and told the installer to look the other way. Lost power in the house a few weeks ago, but was still able to watch TV in the living room thanks to 3000 kVA of UPS power!

Thanks for the responses. I remember when the tech was here installing the HR34 and swapping my 4 wire system to SWM, he intentionally plugged the power inserter into an open wall plug saying that was how it should be done. I will take your advice and now use the UPS for it.
