Advise on new Install - 3 LNB or 5 LNB

I currently have the HR10-250, 2 SD DirecTV Tivos and another HD Receiver connected to a 3 LNB dish and an OTA antenna. I have been fairly happy with the setup, but my OTA stations are somtimes flaky. Since I am getting the NYC feed for NBC I am using that one exclusively.

I am moving in about a month, and I am wondering if I should go with the 5 LNB dish now. Has anyone had experience with D* movers packagers. Is it the standard install with 2 cable runs?

My current dish is installed at the side of the house. I understand that the new dish must be installed on top of the roof, on a pole, or to masonary? Is that correct? I am planning to get a new OTA antanna, a SS-2000 square shooter that could be installed right on the 3 LNB dish. Could it be installed on the 5 LNB dish, too?

There are only 2 HD locals available in our market. So OTA is a must. I am planning on moving all my equipment, including my 5x8 multiswitch. I believe the entire setup is going to work, even diplexing the OTA signal since I don't have a receiver capable of getting local OTA stations.

So - with a more difficult install and only have 2 locals HD available, should I go with the new 5 lnb dish or stick with the lighter 3 lnb dish?

Now as in tomorrow or now as in "about a month"? The 5LNB dish isn't going to buy you anything today.

Very few mounting configurations are being dismissed out-of-hand. Chimney straps may be the lone exception

NO! The Square Shooter mounts on its own mast in much the same way that a satellite dish is mounted. Because the new multiswitches do not handle OTA, proximity to the dish or multiswitch is typically not a consideration.

You would be wrong about the 5x8 switch working with the 5LNB dish. Diplexing must be done downstream of the 6x8 multiswitch.

You will need to migrate to the 5LNB setup eventually, so you might as well do it as part of the move. The question that remains is what exactly is this "another HD Reciever".

If you get a new dish installed with the DTV mover's connection then they will install a 5-LNB dish by default. All new installs will consist of the new AT9 dish as DTV is trying to move as many customers as they can over to mpeg4 eventually.

The 5X8 multiswitch will work fine with the AT9 dish as long as you don't expect to receive anything from the 99 or 103 sats. If you don't have any mpeg4 receivers then you can simply configure your setup exactly the same as you currently have.

If and when you do decide to make the switch to mpeg4 you will have to get a new multiswitch and possibly upgrade your wiring to solid copper RG-6 if the installers don't use it when you move. Chances are they will use the copper cable for a new install for the AT9 dish but you should check to make sure.
