I think the lack of responses to this post pretty much says it all...

When they outbid ESPN or NBC for NFL games, then there will be a response. That isn't likely in my lifetime unless there is Middle Eastern oil money laying around to invest in an American cable TV channel because the profits are so high compared to other investments.

Here's an interesting article about plans by Al-Jazeera to launch two new sports networks in the US this coming August.

Any thoughts?
Oh yeah, I have thoughts ...

Do you know anything about the station or are your feelings based on ignorance?

Another motivation might be to get the message-their message, whatever that might be-to the American public.

I say, bring it on! I feel I am educated enough to know when I am being propagandized, be it our Gov't, theirs, or yours*. Besides, there's the FF button, or Mute if the announcer or color guy starts spouting.

So, I welcome all comers who will bring sports or entertainment to us.

*Edit: Don't mean to imply that phrelin's gov't is different than mine, (other than county or city officials!)

The reason I started the thread was because these folks have acquired the US TV rights to Spain's La Liga, Italy's Serie A, and France's Ligue 1 and I wonder how much of a chance Dish Network will carry the two sports channels.

DISH carries Cricket (another international sport) ... DISH carries Al-Jazeera Arabic as an international channel. There is a chance.

If it were US sports (like NFL or MLB) I'd say there is less of a chance ... but DISH seems to like international sports and I don't see why the new channels would not find their way on to 118 and DISH's IP streaming service.
