Analog style PQ problems on Dallas locals

New to the forum (great info here...), and looking for some help with a problem. Dish recently turned off my distant nets, and installed a Dish500 to deliver the Dallas locals. The picture quality of those stations is terrible compared to what I used to get from NY and LA. The problem isn't blocking or pixelization though; it's analog style PQ problems you'd usually see in OTA reception. I'm hoping someone here might have the Dallas locals to see if they have the same problems. Here's what I see:

ABS (ch 8400): ghosting, double images, especially with text on a dark background. Sometimes words will repeat all the way across the screen horizontally.

CBS (ch 8401): vertical bar, about 2" wide on my 36" screen, fixed position, slightly left of center. Some days it's not there, and some days it's extremely visible. I see this same effect on the local PBS (8407?).

Minor problems on other dallas locals, but those are the three worst. Anyone see anything something similar? Dish has already sent one service tech, and they were stumped.

FYI, I've got a 36" Sony Wega XBR with a model 5000 receiver (waiting to buy a 721, if Dish can ever fix this problem...)

Thanks for any help...

nothing like that is happening on any of my receivers...
Email Dish Tech support and your local station engineer about the problem. When I first got the Portland locals there was a problem with ABC and the day I emailed them it was fixed. Ended up being on Dish's end.
I've called several times, and talked to their 2nd level up tech support. They swear the problem isn't on their end. They've also already sent a service tech who seemed to know his stuff, and he was stumped. Just how do you get analog type defects on a digital signal? Seems like it would have to be either at the source, or the display. Since no other channels have the problem except a couple of the Dallas locals, that would tend to rule out the display.

But Dish says no one else from Dallas is complaining. Their latest theory last night was that there may be interference from a power line across the street from me, somehow affecting the Dish's reception! How's that for ludicrous...

How is the 5000 connected to the Sony? Are you using "S" video?
I am in Dallas. Do not have the problem you are talking about. I have a 36 Sony XBR also. I have a 301 and 501 both connected to this TV (Video 1 and video 2--both with S-video.)

If you are using the RF ch.3 output to the TV it might be possible the analog interference is coming from your 5000. The 5000 has an over the air tuner built into it, possibly you are getting a signal generated internally that is causing the problem.
i think it's hobgoblins...
Boba, I have both S-video and composite connections hooked up (when I originally hooked up my system 4+ years ago, I wanted to compare...) I see the same PQ problems over both connections.

Also, the Dish tech who came out last week, tried using the RF out straight into the television, and it still had the exact same problems. Also, I did have lifeline cable hooked into my 5000; I disconnected that, and the PQ problems are still there.

They're sending another tech out tomorrow, and this one is supposed to bring another receiver with him, to see if it displays the same problems. If that doesn't work, there doesn't seem to be any other options. I hate to go back to cable after over 4 years of excellent dish service, but honestly right now the cable picture is better than the dish on the major networks, which is what I'm watching 80% of the time...

I have almost the same setup as you... 36" Sony Wega with a model 5000. I'm feeding the TV composite video through a Sony A/V receiver. I don't see the problems you are referring to. I do occationally see very light ghosting on WFAA, but no vertical bar on KTVT. Strange!
