Hey Guys, thanks for all the useful info. Here is one more question I haven't seen addressed. I am an existing D* customer, currently leveraging for a competitive upgrade to the HR20. I currently have a 2LMB dish, running to a "home-run" in the basement. From there, I have a three way signal splitter (two in - three out). Two lines go to the family room and are hooked up to my SAT-T60 (dual tuner), the other to the bedroom not currently being used. When I get he HD equipment, will additional lines need to be run into the house? If so, how many? Can I expect that they will run them to the "home-run" or to the main unit I want to connect the HR20 to. Also, can someone explain to me the number of number of incoming lines needed, and what, if anything, I will need to do to splice service to the bedroom. I plan to move my existing tivo up there and would like to split the single feed that exists into two for the dual tuners. Will standard sat signal splitters work, or do I need fancy HD ones. I understand that that my old CD tivo will continue to work with all this new equipment.

Also, I'm getting ready to drywall my basement, but I'm holding off until this install, just to facilitate the cable runs and any other configuration changes necessary.

Thanks to all

Yes, 4. Ideally you'd want to run two more to the existing multiswitch (it's not a splitter nor can you use splitters to divide up the feeds from the dish) you have now and replace the existing switch with a WB68 6x8 switch designed to work with the new 5 LNB dish then route out to the new location from there.

Thanks, will that be included in the install? How does this work? How many in, how many out?

For the room in SD - can I get a multiswitch in that room to make the single run into two?
Currently, there is only one line running to the room?

Thanks

You can't turn a single line into two.

With the HD dish, you will have 4 outputs from the dish. If you run those to a multiswitch, all four must be connected to the inputs of the multiswitch. You then have 8 outputs (WB68) or 16 outputs (WB616) available to feed receivers.

From the multiswitch, you have to run a separate coax line to each receiver, and to each tuner input on a dVR.

If you want to use another multiswitch downstream of the first, then you need to run FOUR lines from the first to the second, which leaves you 4 outputs available on the first multiswitch and 8 outputs available on the second one. Also, with the WB68, you may very well have problems cascading them because they are not powered, and you may not get enough power through them back to the dish to properly power it.

So if I understand correctly, the installer will likely run two new lines into my house (total of four). They will run to a switch in my homerun, that sends the signals to each receiver. It looks as though this switch has six in and eight out??? Is that correct?? Does the HD DVR with dual tuners also require two feeds?

Can I expect the installer to have this as part of the installation? Right now I only need to support the one HD DVR, preferably with two lines and the old SD with only a single input.

Thanks to all.

The installer may or may not install a multiswitch, since you only need three lines to support that equipment. Some people have reported getting a multiswitch in that situation, however (I did not). Either way, you will get whatever is required.

A DVR can be used with only one cable feeding it, but it will only be able to use one tuner in that case.

Actually if you only need 4 runs (I missed that one of the 3 you have now wasn't being used) there is no need for an additional switch in the basement, just the 4 runs from the dish directly to your tuners.
