This just came to me so I thought I would ask.......

D* offers no locals in my area 26101 Parkersburg WV

Our ONLY local station in our DMA is WTAP which broadcasts an NBC and just recently a FOX signal.

*Sidenote* According to D* our local CBS station is WDTV which I never heard of until I looked it up. They are over 60 miles away in Clarksburg I could never get there reception OTA, and our cable providers never used their station.

So I have always had cable since I can ever remember (im only 25) our ABC,CBS, and until a few years ago FOX stations have all come from the Charleston-Huntington DMA (which is about 60-80 miles from me) Directv does offer the charlestion-huntington locals (in SD only at this point)

So are you telling me when (If) Directv offers Parkersburg DMA, that will only give me NBC and FOX and I will still have to go distant locals for ABC and CBS? That doesnt seem right.

I guess its directv not offering me my neighboring locals is what bugs me. It seems that even if D* decided to offer the Parkersburg locals Ill still be two networks short. Is this making sense to anyone?

There is one other option. Some markets get significatnly viewed channels from other DMA's. It would be a long shot but they my try to do that if you are missing some locals. Time will tell. I had to go the waiver route myself and I only live 30-45 miles from my DMA market. I been approved for ABC,NBC, FOX, PBS, and CW but not CBS. I had to buy a HD Antenna just to get it. Now that I actually got the antenna only CBS and FOX are broadcasting in HD so far. I guess for me its wait until the deadline for more HD locals. Good luck with it all. FYI SD DNS channels are not that bad. If approved you get east and west coast and it makes it easier to record shows since you can just record them off of the west coast a few hours later if needed. Its kind of nice.

There aren't many examples of these outside of Mankato, MN.
Im sure its a long shot but I think D* may start seeing this as more of an option at some point. Right now its getting more markets locals but at some point they can fine tune and maybe go after more of this to get remaining local channels people are missing from their market.

I'm in the Rochester MN/Mason City DMA.. Weird part is.. we get all locals in SD.. Charter Cable offers almost all the Twin Cities stations (Minneapolis/St. Paul) in SD/HD on the cable systems.. They had the Charter rep on the news the other day and said "We carry the twin cities market since they are a significantly viewed market" ..

SInce you seem to post a lot and know a lot, think there is any way to get Directv to allow me to get that DMA as well? Funny part is.. 9 miles NE of my house is in the Twin Cities DMA.. gotta love that..

You never know until they say or do something, but SV has not been something that DIRECTV has chased after; especially if you are otherwise served with three or more of the big four.

My thoughts were more so after they are done adding DMA markets this would be another way to fill out markets that did not get all affiliates. I think local markets should take priority over adding additional individual local stations.
