Another NASCAR fiasco

Today's summary:
On one hr20, I set a three hour pad at the end of the Cup race.
On the other, I set recordings for the two following programs with the race set to end at its scheduled time.
The padded race played fine until it was about 3:02 into the recording at which time it just stopped playing. The time line showed that about 4:30 had recorded and that 6:00 was scheduled to record. However, I could not get the recording past 3:02 no matter what I tried--30 sec skip, ff, etc. My conclusion after three weeks of NASCAR recording problems is that the hr20 does not work well with padded shows, especially 3 hour pads.
The segmented recordings on the other machine were fine and I was able to see the end of the race by playing the recorded following show.

For those of you with only one hr20, I would avoid using a 3 hour pad and instead do segmented recordings using the following scheduled programs as your pad.

All recordings were HD mpeg-4 programs. Before we got HD broadcasts here, however, I had similar problems with padded SD mpeg2 recordings.

As I've said in other posts, I really like the hr20, but D* HAS to make reliability their one and only project until these problems are solved!!!

If I can make it through next week's races, at least D* will have two months to straighten this out before Daytona.

The other problem is that at the end they switched the final coverage over to CNBC, no way to see that coming....

I for one will be glad when NBC is gone next year.
I did a 30 minute pad and didn't have any issues with the recording... Well no issues other than the picture quality issues that have been gone over here. I did a lot of experimenting with this race. I flipped from 720 to 1080 and didn't see any differences in the broadcast quality. The pixiling affect is really getting old. I did a frame by frame on one of those close up shots where the cars are zooming past the camera, and it was nothing but a huge blob of squares going by. The good news is we've got one race left and only a few football games until the break. We can just hope that D* has their S* together by next year.

They had to go to football per NFL contract....do you think ABC will do any better?

They did the same thing last week, so I totally expected them to switch over to CNBC.
Sorry to hear that rsblaski. Except for the poor PQ on NBC through D the race recorded perfectly. I even switched between recorded and live a few times, tirck plays etc. Hope this gets better for you.

By the way, still bon't have 0xEB. What were you using?

Yeah, I forgot to pad and missed the end by like 13 laps. Caught the highlights on NASCAR.com
I have my SL for NASCAR Racing pad the recordings for 3 hours and have no problems at all.

I did have a small problem last week when I caught up to live, started watching about an hour late, and it stopped playing my recording at the point I caught up so I had to actually just tune to the channel. But once the recording was done I checked and I could play past that point with no problem.

The problem I have is that the MP4 locals look like utter crap compared to OTA.

I've got 0xEB since I'm in the Pacific time zone.

However, I did have the same problem before 0xEB. Also had the same problem recording SD MPEG2.
Since getting 3 out of 4 local HD nets and 0xEB, the problem has gotten worse. I don't know which factor weighs more heavily--MPEG4 or 0xEB--most likely a combination of the two.

Have you tried to set a manual timer for the desired channel and time period?

No. I expect the darn thing to work as it is supposed to. I'm not going to start compensating for its deficiencies other than what I described in my original post.
I will continue to pad one hr20 and set up recordings for race and the following programs on the other one.
Hopefully, D* will get these problems sorted out eventually. It will be a great DVR once the basic expectations are met and then additional capabilities are added.
