I have an OLD radio shack antenna that has been unused and lying on the ground under my deck for about 10 years. I hooked it up to my 622 and now get ABC HD!!!!! With the antenna on the ground the highest siginal was 66, I laid it on my deck about 8 feet higher than the ground, still 66, I put it on my roof about 12 feet higher and STILL 66. I don't have a mast to mount it to but I'm wondering if 66 is the best it will do. Shouldn't the ~20' height gain (and no trees blocking the line of sight) increase my signal? The 66 seems ok but from I have read I wounder if 70+ may be better.

I am finding it hard to believe that the signal is not changing at all with the different elevation. Usually the higher the better. Good luck with it.

If it does not cut out, it's probably as good as it is going to get. It's a digital picture, so it's either there, or it isn't... no "fuzz" issues like analog...
Like joshjr said, you really ought to be seeing some changes with elevation....

I would go to tvfool.com and check your address. That way you'll get a realistic idea of what is reachable from your address. That way you won't waste any time and money needlessly.

I tried tvfool.......................got results that do not agree with what I see on my tv. I'm getting 10 channels ABC HD and some "public service"channels. I called KSL (NBC Salt Lake) and KUTV (CBS Salt Lake) and neither of them could tell me if their translators on Utah Hill are digital and?if they are if they send an HD signal!!! My zip is 84722 if anyone can figure out what tvfool is saying I should get.

Thanks for trying. None of the call signs match up with anything I get. ABC is not on the list, but is the only "local" I get from the antenna.

Here is what you are looking for. I found it on wikipedia.

On April 19, 2008, during their 5:30 newscast, KUTV became the second station in Salt Lake City behind KSL to broadcast in high definition.

What are the call letters for the ABC you are getting?

Most of Southern Utah's channels are transmitted from "Webb Hill" which is a small transmitter site at the south end of St. George and it is not even close to visible from where I live. Utah Hill ( where I point my antenna ) is about 15 miles west of St. George ane is a clear line of site from my house. I wonder if the other "local" stations are servinh St. George from Webb and don't know that there are viewers up her in the mountains. I would think that if this is true this would be a good argument to receive "distant locals"?????????

Yeah I think you should call E* and ask them about a waiver for locals. No I am not up on how this works for E* but I know its not hard to get them submitted for D*. I think I heard that E* was offerning distant locals to people that were getting their locals and got fined for it so they do not offer any DNS feeds anymore. It can not hurt to call and ask. It may also be incentive for you you to go with D*. Here is what D* says is available for your zip code. There is 16 locals and all of the major ones. Maybe its time to consider Directv. Those 16 I gave you are all available to you on D*. Now I have no idea which ones are HD but you could switch to D* and still use your antenna and record the HD content to your DVR from the antenna. I hope you get something to work out for you. It would probably also make a difference if you baught a better newer antenna as well. I bet your signla and amount of stations would increase.

Let's go back to your first post!! Make sure you attach a good quality cable(rg-6 quad ins) and a good connector(compression if possible) to your antenna. This might make quite a diiference in your signal gain. Hope this helps, and good luck.
