Are there any members out there who have a Dish 5000 HD Receiver? It is being reported on AVS forum that Dish Network some how changed the encoding of the HD Demo Channel so that it can't be received by Dish 5000 receivers.

I just checked my Dish 6000 at home and the demo channel is coming in fine. It would be interesting to see if they blocked the Demo Channel from the 5000's so that people can record the HD content from Discovery HD.

If Dish did indeed block out the 5000 owners there is gonna be a lot of screaming going on.

Have a 5000 with HD mod, but can't see 61.5. So no Discovery HD for me. :(

Looks as if from your other posts that I will need to upgrade the 5000 to see Discovery, in the event they ever run a dual feed at 148 or move to 110. :)

Was hoping to wait to see if and when a HD receiver with a hard drive will be released, or the "post merger" unit.

Also have a DTC 100, so it will be interesting to see what they upgrade or replace if the merger occurs.

Good thing I sold my 5000 HD mod last year. It payed for the 6000. Still have the 5000 less/HD Mod. I bet sales for these things on Ebay are going to go to pot pretty quick.

The Discovery HD Theater is scheduled to switch from the QPSK format to 8PSK on 8/1, hence the requiement for the "HD Enhancement Module" for the 6000.

I think we can anticipate that the other HD Ch's will go to 8PSK soon afterwards.

So 5000HD users are going to be SOL.

HTguy, while it has not been officially announced yet, I have been hearing from a few of my contacts that all the HD channels will switch to 8PSK format in November.

I know many 5000 owners will be upset (even if they are offered a FREE 6000) they want the abilty to time shift, again my feeling on it was that the 5000 was never designed to hook up to a HD VCR. The fact that it works really is more of a bug then a feature. :)

Scott, E* ATS still does not have any info that a special mod will be required to receive Discovery HD on 7/1. It would make more sense to drop the Demo channel until Nov to get letters out to 6000 owners that they will need an 8PSK mod. Will be interesting if they offer an upgrade path to 5000 owners, but then how to tell who does and who does not have a QPSK mod, other than to ask.
