Any good deals for long term customers?

2659 Views 18 Replies 16 Participants Last post by  jclewter79
Hello All!

I've been a DTV customer since 1999.

They upgraded me last year for s/h to a hr21 and new hd dish.

I have a non-hd receiver in the bedroom and was wondering if there are any good deals out there....or if contact DTV to get a free upgrade is possible?

I remember seeing a while back that costco had an hr22 for existing customers at $169.

Anything similar now?

Any help appreciated.

call and ask, there aren't any set deals for existing customers
Costco should still have HR2x DVR's for $169.
You should also check out this thread http://www.dbstalk.com/showthread.php?t=134670

In addition check your online account and you may see that you can order an HR2x for $99 directly.
hope I've got the right thread. I've been a customer since '96, but the question is for very non tech freinds of mine.
8 mos ago they had their DVR and 2 SD recievers installed, I got to their house in FL and noticed only one tuner working, the install was faulty, we got someone out to their house, I then said you need HD equipment, (they are a turnover from DISH)
the installation supervisor promised them a free HD upgrade, customer service says no way, it's 99 bucks a reciever and 199 for the DVR.
from reading the threads I guess there are no deals? to go from SD to HD?
but the big question is, WHY is it so complicated with pricing, customer service etc, why in the world can't they simply things instead of every call being a shopping excursion to Tijuana????

because DirecTv IS rocket science.

Without their mastery of rocket science, there'd be no "birds" in the air to get your TV stations.
I tried out the link (I've been with D* since 1998) but it says "You do not qualify today but we will continue to recognize loyal customers in the upcoming months."
Upgrade "deals" are determined based on certain criteria which will be different from account to account. The single most important metric is whether or not you pay your bill on time, meaning before the due date. Other factors include if you've received any deals in the recent past, what programming you subscribe to, and your credit score.

D* employees have no idea what your credit score is.

Would not be surprised if they did. Add to teh fact they probably do have a rating scale for your account history, they probably know a lot more then what you are guessing
Just upgraded to a hr22 from a r-10 for almost $0; asked for credits for HD surcharge in exchange... call retention. First offer was $100 + shipping

D* runs a credit check on your initial activation. This score is never displayed nor do they keep updating it. If they did you would see multiple inquiries from D*. I never said they didn't have a rating system for accounts. I don't know any company that doesn't have one that you pay monthly for services.

The best thing to do is to call, b/c there are deals tying in to each cust, if you have been there for that long you should be loyal cust in which means your eligible for a free hd upgrade.
DTV WILL upgrade you at no charge IF the stars align and the moon is in the right phase, that day. I have a 3LNB with an old HR10 and said, sure guys/gals, upgrade me to the new 5LNB. After 3 install tries (we all know where this is going), Mastec told me they cannot install dishes using chimney mounts.

So DTV said, get a local installer to do it, send in the receipts, and we will credit your account. Seems fair, but I had to go and purchase the receiver and dish. I am going to get a new HR22 for 2 rooms, the new 5 LNB and THEN call out the local installer, and send the bill to DTV and ask them to pay it. After all the equipment may be purchased by me, but I still end up leasing it from them. Sort of like asking eskimos to pay for snow, but that is the life they lead.
Actually, D* has been upgrading most all HR10's for free because they can't handle the new MPEG4 HD channels and the MPEG2 HD channels will soon be discontinued.

That's not entirely true. Once you're a customer, a company can pull your credit whenever they want. They are "soft" inquiries (meaning not used to take out new credit) and do not affect your credit score or show up in the inquiries section of your credit report.

If DIRECTV has your SS#, and your initial permission to pull credit, it is likely that they do know your FICO. It is extremely unlikely, however, that the CSR knows what it is.

Exactly right. The score is never shown to the CSRs; DirecTV's service application checks it, runs it through its algorhythm with the other metrics, and either spits out a "does not qualify" message, or presents an offer. CSRs have no way of knowing WHY any of this happens, and aren't trained to care. They just offer the customer what the system tells them they can.

have you actually seen an inquiry on your credit ? and if so, what agency. My understanding is that Directv uses a soft inquiry for the check, and that would not impact your credit score. I have never seen a case where there is a second check after activation
Soft checks are reflected on a credit check even though they do not affect the score. If they are doing it it would be on your credit report.
