Any speculation on when or if D will add the sub channels that the locals are broadcasting ??
Too many LIL's don't have any service to be worrying about subchannels, then do the calculations: lets just allow for 1 subchannel per network affiliate in each market, 5 network channels=5 subchannels x top 100 markets = 500 additional channels? Sorry, while I have seen some useful use of subchannels, nothing that would warrant that kind of bandwidth commitment.

kind of hard to get subchannels if you get one of the new HD or HD-DVR receivers.
D*, how about prioritizing getting the AM21 to work with the H21 and H/HR22?
It only works with the HR21 right now.

But, an H24 with an integrated tuner and B-Band converter sounds nice... hint hint.

No OTA here unless you spend a few hundred dollars for a hilltop TV antenna.

I would hope that after we get HD locals from DirecTV (if we ever do,) that they somday give us the subchannels, too.

I think it would be worth looking at if the bandwidth were there, and once all markets were provided with HD locals. But if I lived in an area where there was no HD LIL service and I saw other markets getting SD subchannels before I got HD locals, I'd be ticked about it, and I'd think rightly so.

I'd be VERY upset if I thought D* was giving the sub channels before I get my LiL's! I can't get a good enough signal to DVR anything from OTA. So all the decent shows on the major networks are only in SD for me, which really sucks! And I've tried everything to get waivers for the major networks, but from this forum, I realize practically nobody, if anybody, gets these waivers.

Have not heard anything, and in most markets there is not HUGE value to the subchannels anyways. The main ones are the weather subchannel on the NBC affiliate and the PBS subchannels IMO, but I doubt Directv has plans to add them anytime soon with the amount of other main locals they are missing currently. Not to even mention PBS HD ;)

I think you won't see Directv even consider subcahnnels until all channels are available in MPEG-4 and they cut off all current MPEG-2 channels, freeing up a ton of space... Or they get BSS up and running.. Either way, we are talking about 10 years or more, and who even knows if subchannels will still be around then.

Now, what would be interesting, is if they could somehow figure out how to get all subchannel programing onto a VOD channel...

Yeah, but probably a lot of us who live too far out for OTA are too far out for high speed internet.

If I could get OTA with a rooftop antenna, believe me, one would be up there in a heartbeat.

If your to far out for traditional high speed... there is always this option.. A bit pricey, but maybe the only way to go...

Horrible for VOD though still, the caps make it almost impossible to use for large downloads like VOD content.

Directv carries some subchannels already - in Dothan, AL WTVY (CBS) has a subchannel for the CW and one for MyNetworkTv. Directv carries both of these as part of their SD locals (HD locals are not yet available there).
